School Counseling Curriculum

The classroom lesson curriculum uses two main programs: Second Step and Kelso's Choices, among many other district approved resources. The Second Step program is designed to help children thrive and be more successful in school, ultimately setting them up with the skills to be thoughtful and productive adults.  The Social Emotional Learning works to add another dimension to education improving communication, cooperation, and decision making. Through four units (Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving) several 21st century skills are targeted, modeled, and practiced throughout the year. The Kelso's Choices program teaches students skills and strategies to solve problems as well as differentiate between small problems they can solve on their own and large problems they need an adult to help with.
